Square des Batignolles

Once a public square, this 1.6-hectare park was created during the Second Empire at the request of Baron Haussmann, who was responding to Napoleon III’s wish to establish English-style gardens in Paris. The emperor had brought back this taste for gardens from one of his trips to England. It is one of the 24 projects by civil engineer Adolphe Alphand.
