Rotonde de la Villette

Also known as the ‘Barrière Saint-Martin’, the Rotonde de la Villette is one of the toll gates in the Wall of the Farmers-General, built before the French Revolution. More specifically, it is one of the five monuments—and the most ornate—of this toll gate. It housed the offices of a tax collector, whilst the inspection of goods entering Paris took place in other smaller structures. Today, the rotunda is a venue for cultural events and celebrations.
