Georges de la Tour, between light and shadow
Georges de La Tour is one of the greatest French painters of the 17th century. A master of chiaroscuro, his painting has a rare intensity that is at once poetic, fragile and timeless. For the first time in 30 years, more than 20 of his masterpieces are brought together in an exceptional retrospective.

Au Lapin agile
This Montmartre institution, which is still in business today, opened in the second half of the 19th century. It owes its fame to the singer-songwriter Aristide Bruant, who bought it in 1913 and turned it into a meeting place for artists in the early 20th century (including Pablo Picasso, Max Jacob and Blaise Cendrars).

Moulin de la Galette
When referring to the “Moulin de la Galette”, a distinction should be made between, on the one hand, the public dance hall, or open-air dance venue, which was opened in the 19th century by the Debray family (millers) on their own land and was originally known as the “Bal Debray”, and, on the other hand, three mills used for grinding wheat and even pressing grapes. Of the three original mills, only two remain, situated close to one another: the Blute-fin – now located on private property and therefore out of sight – and the Radet, which was moved to sit atop a building that has since become a restaurant, on the corner of Rue Lepic and Rue Girardon.

This 20th-century writer is the author of the short story “Le passe-muraille”. In it, he tells the story of an office worker, Monsieur Dutilleul, who discovers he has the gift of being able to walk through walls.

Montmartre Vineyard
Vines have been growing on the Butte since at least 944. The nuns of Montmartre Abbey planted vines there in the 12th century, and by the 18th century, vines covered three-quarters of the hill before disappearing. It was in the 1930s that they reappeared with the creation of the Clos-Montmartre by the City of Paris and the planting of 20,000 vine plants. The first grape harvest festival was held in 1934. There are currently around thirty different grape varieties.
